Horrible Interface & Smart Applicance that Isn't

My takeaway from using this machine is that the interface was designed by people who do not actually do laundry. (Was user feedback actually incorporated?) In terms of performance, it doesn't get clothes dry on the only low-heat setting (Delicate). As a smart appliance it gets low marks because the ThinQ app is of very little utility (although I like the cycle done notification).~~~ Appliance Issues ~~~This dryer has an extremely poor, non-intuitive interface. Apparently the interface designers really love pushing buttons. My old dryer I could turn on simply by turning the knob. This one, you have to press the power button and then turn the knob. Maybe not so annoying in itself, but the trend continues... It doesn't remember previous settings for a cycle so I have to go through and press buttons to customize it each time, even if I am using the same cycle as last time. So, for instance, you have to remember to turn on the wrinkle guard each and every time.I wash most of my clothes in cold water and dry them at low temperature so I can combine and minimize my loads. However, this dryer does not actually get clothes dry on the Delicate cycle, which is the only one on the dial that uses low heat. (I suspect this is a programming thing and not a sensor thing, but I do not really know. Maybe I just hope it is programming, because that can be fixed through an update if there is a way to get one.) So each time I want to run a load, I have to manually push yet another button multiple times to increase the dryness level to Very *every single time*.But that doesn't actually work to get the clothes dry, so instead I have to do the timed dry at low heat (not very energy efficient or convenient). The timed dry is yet another bad interface - totally non-intuitive. You select the time with the setting in the middle of the panel, but you modify the time with buttons on the edge nowhere near that section. (Difficult to find if you are not familiar with the appliance.) It defaults to high temperature, so I have to change that *each time*. It defaults to 40 minutes, so for a full load I need to increase that *each time*. And why is it not on the dial like a normal dryer? I had to look it up in the manual because I wasn't looking on the panel. To make it worse, the control panel is difficult to read at an angle and has small print and poor contrast, so it is difficult to operate when the dryer is against a wall with the panel on the wall-side. It is definitely not good for cramped laundry rooms.~~~ ThinQ App ~~~Some of this could be mitigated with the ThinQ app, but it doesn't. You can't make your own selection of downloadable programs or modify existing ones and save them. Really, it should be easy and an obvious thing to do. And what you can modify is extremely limited and doesn't save. (Why can't I select the dry level for Low Temp Dry??) Finding a useful pre-set program is difficult and tedious because there isn't a filter or a search beyond the cycle name. (For instance, I would like a filter for cycles/programs that use low temperature.)I can't figure out what the Remote Start feature is supposed to do, since it forgets the setting once the dryer is off. (And it is a press and hold to turn on, which makes it annoying to do each time.) The scenarios I can think of where this would be a useful feature won't work. Maybe run a timed cycle because I know the load won't be dry when the cycle is done? No - currently, there is no timed cycle option in the app. Maybe because the kids loaded the dryer for me? No, because the Remote Start setting doesn't save, and they won't remember to turn on the machine and set it each time. The main use of the app for me is the notification of when the dryer is cycle done (which I really like). It's really a shame the app is so useless. Wouldn't it be cool to have maybe three or four favorite cycles (complete with custom mods) that you could just select from your smart watch while standing in front of your machine after loading it? (Or, I suppose, phone, but I don't want to - and I shouldn't have to - carry my phone around the house everywhere.) It would be even better if I could modify and download those 3 or 4 programs to those unused places on the dial.~~~ One (Somewhat) Bright Spot ~~~The only saving grace to all this is that you get one saved favorite and one ThinQ-app downloaded cycle. Of course, since you cannot modify the downloaded settings, if the exact one you need does not exist that doesn't help. And, if you or somebody in your house downloads a different cycle, to use your customary one you need to get your phone, start up the app, find the program (hopefully marked as a favorite to make it easier), and download it again.~~~ Summary: Not Recommended ~~~Truly, my blood pressure goes up nearly every time I use this dryer. I really regret buying it and cannot recommend it to anybody. (So much for research.)

I am happy with the dryer's performance, but I'm still unsure about the settings . The manual is not very specific as to which settings to use and how to make time, temperature and dryness level adjustments. For example, removing wrinkles from line dried items for less than 20 minutes does not seem possible.Overall, I would recommend the product but would caution a shopper to make sure he or she understands the various selections and other uses.

My old dryer was about 12 years old and had no idea that a new one would be so much better. after all they just dry out clothes don't they? Well not this new LG washer is so much better. all my golf shirts come out ready to wear, no more ironing

Works great. Better than the washer.
